Cairanne was promoted to an appellation of its own in 2016, and its reds are among the most substantial of the southern Rhône villages. Domaine la Guintrandy's 2021 is 60% Grenache and 40% Syrah.
It is purple, with red stone fruit and toasted wood on the nose, robust tannins and a powerful, velvety palate of cooked red fruit. It is drinking now, though an hour in a decanter helps it open up, and it will keep until 2028. Try it with a mushroom or truffle dish.
