Château Croix de Labrie
AOC Saint-Emilion Grand Cru

Organic and Vegan Red Wine

Experience the rare elegance of Château Croix de Labrie, an organic and biodynamic red wine from Saint-Émilion’s Grand Cru Classé, now gracing Northern Ireland, UK and Ireland. Nestled in Saint-Christophe des Bardes, this prestigious estate, elevated to Grand Cru Classé in 2022, boasts historic cellars from 1687. Axelle and Pierre Courdurié took the helm in 2013, crafting just 400 cases of this Grand Vin annually— cementing its status as one of the last “garage wine” icons of the 1990s. Spanning 5.7 hectares of clay-limestone and gravel-clay soils, the 50-year-old vines (mostly Merlot, with dashes of Cabernet Sauvignon and Franc) thrive under organic and biodynamic care, hand-picked for perfection.

This deeply colored, near-opaque beauty explodes with chocolate, black cherry liqueur, blueberries, espresso, and licorice on the nose. The palate dazzles—lush, polished, and corpulent, yet balanced with firm tannins and a fresh lift, ending in a lingering cascade of ripe fruits. Plots are vinified separately, cold-soaked for four days, and barrel-aged 18 months after malolactic fermentation in vats and barrels, ensuring depth and finesse. With 98-99 points from James Suckling—“blackberries, earth, mushrooms”—it rivals the 2019 vintage and ages gracefully from 2024 to 2045.
  • Pairing: Perfect with NI stews or Irish roasts

  • Drink: 2024-2045

  • Critic Score: 98-99/100 (James Suckling); 96/100 (Jeff Leve, 2020 vintage)

James Suckling

James Suckling:  98 -99 Points

The focus and texture of this wine is really something. It's totally transpatent with blackberries, blueberries, earth, stone and mushrooms. Flowers too. Full-bodied with firm tannins that give super form and length to this. Freshness. Almost all merlot with tiny dash of cabernet franc and cabernet sauvignon. Perhaps the best ever? Certainly at the same level as the 2019. About 14,000 bottles made.
